The original line up was (left to right) Larry Stearns, Bill Ludwa, Bill Hutchison and Paul Neubauer. Larry and I started the band after we left Max The Band. I called and asked Bill to come over and then we found Paul, to complete the band. I knew Bill from jamming around the area. I think we got Paul from an ad in the paper. Paul was the youngest and brought some great talent to the table along with some very high energy. Paul also knew a lot of people and helped us get into some great venues. During this period the band was still trying to find a definite direction. We had a good idea of what we wanted to do but changes were needed to move forward. Near the end of 1983 Bill left the band because of work scheduling. Now we had to make a change and what a change it was......
The years to follow would be the best of Paris Landing.
After Bill left we started looking for a new drummer and found a new sound. Pat Carroll gave us a call and wanted to come over. This was the element we needed to step up to the next level. Pat had a huge sound and stage presence. He was a very seasoned drummer with a great attitude. We now started to have a new and more powerful sound that people noticed right away. Almost 30 years later I still have people come up to me and comment about Paris Landing. Unfortunately Larry had to make a choice between the band and his day job. Well, as we all know it's the day job that pays the bills not the band. Larry and I started the band and he was a driving force, without him it would never be the same. So Paris Landing officially came to an end. The time spent in this band still stands out today as one of the best times in my life. What a great bunch of guys to hook up with..... I still remain friends with Larry and Pat. I don't know what became of Paul. Larry comes out to see Lake Effect once in awhile.
UPDATE!
Paul just frinded me on FaceBook. I haven't talked with him yet, but he appears to be doing well, which is good news.
Here are a few sound cuts from a recording we made in 1983. We got time at a place called The STUDIO. It was run and owned by John Curulewski, one of the guitarist in the band Styx out of Chicago. We couldn't afford day hours so we went in at night during the work week. The hours were a killer for all of us but we got through it and walked away with a demo for the clubs.
